Spartanburg, SC Photographer | 2 + 1 = 3!!!

I’m just going to start this post off by saying I AM SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO EXCITED for Stephanie & Jason.  They have a little one on the way in March!!!!!!!! :) :) :) :) :)  When Stephanie found out she was pregnant over the summer she immediately contacted me to see if when I was back in Texas for a wedding in August if they could book a session of just the two of them but also make part of the session about their upcoming addition.  Of course I was delighted to have them in front of my camera & get the chance to spend time with them.  You may recognize them from this session that we did last fall shortly after their wedding.  These two are dear dear dear friends of Gary & I and we miss them sooo incredibly much.  I hate that it took us so long to meet since we lived right across the street from each other, but I am thankful for the time we had with them and the fact that these two are friends for the long haul for us!!!! Love these two so much & can’t wait for baby girl & all her bows to join this sweet family next year!!!!!

At the time we took the photos they didn’t know the sex of the baby but since found out and had a gender reveal a few weekends ago so I didn’t give anything way when I said baby girl!!!  Jason, Gary & I are sooooo excited for you to have a little girl that wraps you around her finger :)!!!  Just bug Gary with any girl questions… I know we are totally bias but you are going to LOVE being a daddy to a little girl!!!  I was excited when I found out y’all were pregnant but even more so when Stephanie told me the baby was a girl!!!  Y’all I really can’t contain my excitement… I am sitting here grinning ear to ear!!!!!!

Y’alls friendship is something I know Gary & I both treasure so much and the fact that y’all lived across the street made it the icing on the cake.  I remember when Stephanie & I first started to spend time together and how I loved being able to “meet her out front” for a walk :) & then over time we all started hanging out and then it became a weekly thing for Stephanie & I to have our girls night in :)… okay let me stop thinking about it or I’ll make myself cry!!!  I am really thankful for y’all & your friendship and just so blessed that God placed us in each others lives and right across the street from one another!!!  Thank y’all for wanting me to capture this special time in your lives!!! Love you guys & super excited to meet this little girl!!!

Greenville, SC Wedding Photographer | Kimberly & John Celebrate!!

After Kimberly & John said I do, we all headed to The Heights Villa to celebrate!!  It was my first time at this venue & I really liked how charming it was.  Like so many things with the ceremony the reception had so many hand details that were put together with so much love!!  I loved wandering around making sure to document everything so that way all the hard work that went into everything could be remembered!!  I loved Kimberly’s choice in colors sooo sooo much!!!!  Kimberly & John made their entrance and had their first dance and then guests enjoyed dinner followed by mingling & four of the sweetest toasts (I may have teared up when Kimberly’s dad spoke).  These two are such amazing indivudiuals and as a couple they are even more amazing.  I am so excited to see what God does through their marriage.  The love and support that was shown to them on their wedding day and was incredible and so special to be part of and document!!!  After toasts everyone danced, ate cake, and just continued to celebrate Kimberly & John.

Kimberly & John,  Thank y’all so so soo soo much for wanting me to photograph your wedding day.  From the first email I received from you Kimberly, to the hugs before y’all made your exit for the night there was so much kindness & love from you to and I can’t thank you enough for that.  I loved getting to be surrounded by your family & friends on your wedding day & getting to know y’all over the last year.  Soo very happy for the two of y’all and I really can’t wait to see what God has in store for the two of you!!!

I said it in the blog post Monday… IT WAS A HOT HOT HOT August day.  Kimberly had told me a few times prior to the wedding day to steal them away if I saw a window of time for a few more photos of just the two of them.  So after they were finished eating & their guests were still eating and mingling I stole the two of them away for a few minutes!!  We definitely braved the heat & hummidity again but I am so happy we did.  John, you’re a trooper for keeping that jacket on!!! :) :) So glad I had a chance to get these photos of them!!!  Kendra Martin Photography | Greenville, SC Wedding PhotographerKendra Martin Photography | Greenville, SC Wedding PhotographerKendra Martin Photography | Greenville, SC Wedding PhotographerKendra Martin Photography | Greenville, SC Wedding PhotographerKendra Martin Photography | Greenville, SC Wedding PhotographerI totally didn’t mean to do so many black & white images but I didn’t realize it till I uploaded them & I like them so much I didn’t want to go back and change what I’d done.  :) :)  I am a huge huge fan of black & white images.  If you were to walk into my house you’d see the same is true for our personal photos.  I definitely have more b/w images than color up AND I LOVE IT!!!!

To me there’s just something about them that’s classic, real, pure & timeless!!!

Greenville, SC Wedding Photographer | Kimberly & John

You might recognize these two from their engagement session back in December.  :) :) Kimberly & John tied the knot on a VERY beautiful… yet.. VERY HOT, August, Saturday afternoon.  This was one of the sweetest days & it was so much fun to be there to capture it all!!  The ceremony took place at West U Baptist Church which also happens to be the church Kimberly grew up in.  John & Kimberly were surrounded by so many of their family & friends that love and support them that day… from the moment I walked in the doors and received a big hug from Kimberly & such a sweet hello from her bridesmaids I knew it was going to be an afternoon & evening filled with nothing but love for these two.    The whole wedding had so many hand touches and I loved that about this wedding.  From the lace on Kimberly’s veil & garter being part of her moms wedding gown, to one of her younger sisters actually making both of those two sentimental pieces, to the bouquets, and then to so many other little details… there was sooo much love and work put into this day!!!!  I adore that Kimberly & John dated in high school… then went their separate ways but while at college they reconnected and well… now the rest is history & what an honor it was to capture just a snippet of their love story.

Kimberly & John wanted to have more time celebrating with their guests after the ceremony so they decided to do a  first look!!  AND what a sweet first look it was!!  Kimberly still wanted to have her dad walk her to John as a symbol of him giving her away like he would do later that day as he walked down the aisle of the church.  After what I am assuming from the look on her face were sweet words spoken by her dad & then a giant father/daughter hug, he joined his sweet wife & John’s sweet mother in the balcony.  I LOVED seeing the look on John’s face as he saw his bride for the first time that day.  I have rewritten this sentence a billion times because I can’t quite put into words the beautiful way he looked at the woman that would be his wife in just a few short hours.  This is a man that not only loves this woman with all his heart, but He also loves God, and that love for both was so evident the second he turned around and saw Kimberly & then embraced her.  What I love even more is he had the same look in his eyes as Kimberly walked down the aisle towards him a short time later for the ceremony.  I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE being able to capture love!! I also love getting to photograph first looks & the intimate time the bride & groom have of just the two of them before the rest of the day gets underway (because let’s face it… once the ceremony happens it’s on to the reception and it might be after they say goodbye that the bride & groom get to just be them)… I sit here and smile because photographing weddings is one of my most favorite things & writing about the weddings I photograph is so much fun because I get to relive that day… ohh how I love living & reliving wedding days!!

After all the formal photos with the family & bridal party… I somehow managed to talk these two into just stepping outside for just a few minutes to take a few photos of just the two of them in the beautiful daylight… I think we all died (from the heat) in those very brief moments but I am so glad we did because I love the images soo soo much!!  After that Kimberly & John headed to their separate rooms until it was time for the ceremony!!  I love that when I walked into the guys room they were playing hangman and when I walked into the brides room they were praying… these two are so incredibly laid back and a total joy to be around!!!!  Kimberly & John, I loved being able to photograph your wedding day for y’all.  I loved watching y’all recite your vows, take communion, light the unity candle and pray with your pastor (whom has loved the two of you for a very long time since he’s known y’all for so long)… your ceremony was so incredibly sweet… y’alls love is so sweet & I have loved getting to know the two of you since last year!!  Here are just a few of my favorite images from the first part of their wedding day!!  :) Be sure to check back later in the week when I post images from their reception!!!

Greenville, SC Wedding Photographer | Why I love photographing weddings!!

I love photographing weddings, I really, really do!!  I remember the first time I attended a wedding as a photographer like it was yesterday (and 5 years later I still get the same butterflies that I got that afternoon).  That day I was actually second shooting for one of my now best friends & I remember just eating it all up and loving every second of it.  Well lots of second shooting that year and in August of the same year I was shooting my first wedding on my own and have been shooting weddings ever since.  To think that that was 5 years ago blows my mind!!  5 years has flown by and I have had the opportunity to capture so much love & joy, and I can’t wait to keep documenting wedding days & telling bride & groom’s stories!!!  Being a wedding photographer is so incredibly special.  I get to be there for intimate moments that most will never see, and maybe never hear about.  I get to see parents & friends reactions as the bride slips into her gown for the final time, I get to experience the brides giddiness about walking down the aisle in a few short hours, if the bride & groom do a first look I get to see the awe in a grooms eyes when he sees his bride for the first time (and his smile ALWAYS kills me), I get to sometimes see the last few seconds of just dad & daughter before those doors open and he walks her down the aisle to her groom (That is probably one of my favorite moments on a wedding day… now as a mom it means soo soo much to me because it’s a daddy getting ready to give his baby girl away!!!), I get to know the in’s and out’s of all the different things that’ll happen that day/evening & I ABSOLUTELY LOVE ALL OF IT!!!  I love that my brides welcome me with open arms and make me part of their family & are so comfortable with me when I walk through those doors to say hello and start photographing details, I love when everyone is outside waiting on the bride & groom to exit but I get them to myself for just a few seconds to say goodbye and give hugs & then capture them as they go off to start their lives together as a married couple.  I love the lace, the taffeta, the big hair, the shoes, the flowers, the cake (OHH and if it’s red velvet I’m in love even more), the dancing, the toasts, the first dance, the father/daughter dance… You guys… I seriously love capturing it all and being there for it all.  I can’t thank my brides & grooms enough for the trust & love they have given me over the past 5 years!! I have been so blessed & I can’t wait to see what the next 5 years holds with wedding photography for me!! Looking forward to all the brides & grooms I’m going to get to meet and photograph!!!!!

This image is from a wedding that will hit the blog next week… I adore this bride & her mom so so much… I love that this moment is captured, a moment of love, of excitement, and I’m guessing… but probably reminiscing from mom as she just placed the veil ( the veil that had HER wedding day lace on it) on her daughter’s head… Ohh the love that’s in this photo… photos like this are why I adore being a photographer & getting to document a wedding day!!!!

Greenville, SC Wedding Photographer | LIFE!!

I had EVERY intention of having blog posts ready to go for this week and then life just sort of had a way of keeping me from getting images ready & blogs written & I was sitting at dinner tonight (I guess it’ll be last night since you’re reading this on probably Monday!!) and panicked because “OHH NO, I HAVE THIS INCREDIBLE WEDDING AND SWEET GOING TO HAVE A BABY SESSION EDITED AND THEY AREN’T READY TO HIT THE BLOG!!!”  I know this is totally a first world problem but I am excited to share the wedding and session and I just let getting the blogs ready slip through my fingers… but as I’m sitting here writing this I find myself okay with that… you wanna know why?  Because I love life and I love everything that it’s made up of right this very minute and yes for my business, blog posts are important but the time I’ve spent with my family & in the word over the last week weigh more right this second… so yep I freaked out earlier but after sweet bedtime rituals with my little one, I’m once again reminded of what’s most important (and no I’m not saying my photography isn’t important, y’all know how much photography means to me and how much I love it… I just really really really love my time with God & my family & if I have to do a ranking system those two rank #1 & #2, followed by photography!!!  :) ).

I’m just going to say it… life is crazy right now… between moving to South Carolina, to starting a business in a new state, to running a business (please know if you get an email response back from me at a weird hour of the day/night/not during what should be normal business hours it’s because I have a little girl that pushes work to nap time & after she goes to sleep (and I love that I have to push work to certain times because I am soo soo soo soo lucky to spend my days loving and pouring into her)… I treasure my time with her and with Gary so even though I know I should probably hold “regular business hours”… I don’t/can’t/won’t for the foreseeable future because my time with them is well spent and I will work when she’s asleep), to being a stay at home mom, teaching Kenzie (yes, at the moment we are doing a home school preschool and she’s loving it and so am I!!!), to trying to stay active and healthy, Bible Study, Church, etc… etc… LIFE is crazy… but I wouldn’t change a thing about it.  If you’re reading this and wondering how I balance it all… I DON’T!!  I struggle to have a healthy balance with all these things because they are all so important to me… right now though the most important is my time with my savior & my family and so everything else gets done when it gets done and as quickly and efficiently as I can get it all done.  SO until there’s more hours in the day I will keep juggling all the many hats I tend to wear & loving on the little girl I that I am so blessed to call my daughter & capture memories & keep doing life!!!  Life is totally crazy but I LOVE IT!!!!!

Be on the lookout for this sweet session I photographed when I was back in Houston in August.  One of my friends found out she was pregnant earlier in the summer and when she found out I was opening up sessions the weekend I was back for a wedding, her and her hubby decided that they wanted to take photos that would announce the upcoming arrival of their little one!!  They have already shared the news, but I’m super excited about sharing all the images on here!!  Here’s a sneak peek from their session!!!

Rachel - So sweet! What a cute pair of baby shoes! :)

September 15, 2014 - 5:41 PM

Casey - I love what you’ve written about family being number one – it’s so important and as a photographer we all know it’s easy to get wrapped up in ‘busy season’. I just moved cross country and am getting my business going in a new location, too, and it’s super hard! Don’t forget to take time for yourself and shoot just for you, as well. You’ll want the move and the change documented in years to come. Congrats on the relocation and great job staying ‘real’ and balanced! :)
